Biography : Teresa is a software engineering professional with more than 25 years’ experience working in IT related roles and managerial positions for organisations such as CSIRO, IBM, Telstra, Queensland Government and TechnologyOne.
In 2010, having spent 15 years with TechnologyOne, one of Australia’s most successful, publicly listed, multi-national software companies, Teresa launched a boutique IT implementation consulting company, Resource Excellence.
As the General Manger of TechnologyOne’s Education Solutions group, Teresa led a team to develop a world class student management software product.  This project was initiated through a multi-million dollar, fixed time/ fixed price project in partnership with Curtin University. Teresa then commercialised the software application for sale to other higher education institutions. On the back of this initial project, Teresa built TechnologyOne’s Education Solutions division into a multi-national, $20 million business, employing 65 staff and servicing more than 50% of universities and education institutions in Australia. The success of the Student Management product was pivotal in TechnologyOne’s entry into the Gartner Magic Quadrant for education ERP solutions.
Teresa was the winner of the 2008 Queensland Smart State – Smart Women’s awards for Women in Industry / Business – ICT and a finalist in the 2008 Telstra Business Women’s Awards (Qld).
Teresa has been a member of the Griffith University ICT Industry advisory board for the last four years. The board provides input and reviews the curriculum being delivered or proposed by Griffith University in relation to ICT programs and courses. She is also currently the President of Women in Technology, Queensland, one of the leading technology industry associations for women in Australia.


Josephine-ChengJosephine M. Cheng
Keynote Speaker

IBM Fellow and Vice PresidentBiography: Josephine Cheng, IBM Fellow and Vice President, IBM Research - Almaden, San Jose, California. Ms. Cheng oversees the work of more than 300 scientists and engineers doing exploratory and applied research in various hardware, software and service areas, including nanotechnology, materials science, storage systems, data management, web technologies, workplace practices and user interfaces. Prior to her role at IBM Almaden Research Center, Josephine was vice president, IBM China Development Laboratory (CDL), responsible for software development for IBM Software Group. She led a development team of over 3000 employees located at three sites, Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei. Josephine has been at the forefront of relational database technology for more than 20 years. She currently holds about 28 patents. Josephine was appointed IBM Fellow in 2000. She received the Asian American Engineer of the Year award in 2003. She was inducted into the United States National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 2006 and received the Top 10 Software Leaders in China honor the same year, as well as the Professional Achievement Award from UCLA in 2007. Currently, she is a guest professor at Tsinghua University and Shanghai University; advisory board committee to the School of Software and Microelectronics, Peking University; Computer Science Engineering of the University of California Berkeley and Engineering Council of the San Jose State University and University of Miami; and chaired the advisory board committee of the Department of Computing of Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Josephine also serves on the advisory board of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium (BASIC) Board and Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology Board.

 

Sheryl Frame
Principal Consultant, Edict International Consultants Pty Ltd.

Biography : Sheryl Frame is a Principal Consultant at Perth-based Edict International Consultants Pty Ltd and also a director of the company.  
Currently she is General Manager at Clayko Group**, a position she has held for the last 3 years.
Prior to that, she worked at Clayko for 1 year in a part time capacity whilst also working as a business development manager with Medinexus in Sydney, a company in which she was also a shareholder.
Before immigrating to Australia in 2000, Sheryl had been a director of companies including ProMed, a company she co founded  in 1991 and later sold to Dimension Data.
She specialises in ICT and related management consulting, including:
•    ICT, healthcare and pharmaceutical business start-up and post-start management;
•    Business development and IT systems consulting;
•    Investor and grant application processes and business commercialization.

Sheryl’s consulting has involved clients in the public and private sectors in Africa and Australasia.

These assignments have covered:

•    Pharmaceutical, healthcare and ICT strategy definition and implementation  management for corporate and medium to large enterprises;
•    Business development planning, strategy development and implementation for key IT, resources, healthcare and pharmaceutical sector companies;
•    Taking “Start-ups” from inception to commercial ready
•    Project and program  management across a range of assignments from start-up through to business expansion and mergers;
•    Business, IT and IS process review and re-engineering;
•    Market and marketing development strategies and implementation;
•    Tender management, from both the response and initiation viewpoints.

Her specific expertise and skill sets have been developed and shaped over 25 years as a business manager and consultant in Africa and more recently Australasia.
Sheryl has worked in diverse public (government) and private sector business and industry, including resources (coal, gold and diamond mining), healthcare, pharmaceutical, IT, automotive, general services and community sectors.
She has particular abilities in IT/IS and management consulting, reinforced by marketing, sales, service, mentoring and investor related skills.  Her project and program management capabilities have been developed on medium through to large assignments.
Sheryl also has extensive practical work experience and has held interim executive roles with a number of clients.

 

 

PETER NIKOLETATOS
CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER - CURTIN UNIVERSITY
Panel Member

Biography : Peter Nikoletatos is currently the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Curtin University and has more than 25 years experience in the ICT industry in Australia and overseas. Over the years, he has held several senior appointments including IT Manager for I-MED (Radiology), National Manager eBusiness for CSC (formerly BHP IT), and more recently the CIO of the University of Newcastle. Peter holds a fellowship with the Australian Institute of Project Managers, is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management. In 2008, he served on two boards; INTERSECT and NUSPORT whilst CIO at the University of Newcastle. In 2009, he became a member of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE INSTITUTE and in 2010 was appointed as Deputy-Chair, CAUDIT (Council Australian University Director’s of IT). In 2010 he also became a Board Member of AARNet.
In 2009 and 2010 he served on the Gartner Symposium Advisory Board.
Peter’s experience has been a valuable asset in helping develop Curtin’s capacity to integrate next generation teaching and learning, research support and improvements to corporate services. Peter has a particular interest in ICT strategy and its relationship to research and teaching and eLearning. He has worked closely with many of the leading global vendors to help shape ICT strategy at Curtin University. Peter has also presented at a number of conferences on topics ranging from Effective IT Governance; Managing Change, Emerging Trends and Technologies, Mobility, Identity Management and Cloud Computing. He is also currently undertaking doctoral research focusing on the impact of emerging trends and technologies on education and research.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Newcastle, 1996, Masters of Education Studies (University of Newcastle) 1998, Graduate Diploma in Law (Southern Cross University) 2004, and is currently working towards his PhD.
He is married with two children and has completed five Ironman Triathlon’s, is a keen cyclist, a life member of Hippocrates Australian/Greek Aged Persons Association and an advocate of Cancer Foundation LIVESTRONG, Ovarian Cancer Australia and Strike a Chord for Cancer Foundation.

 

Sue Johnston

Sue has extensive strategic development and business improvement success with technology, analytical and management backgrounds across a diverse range of industry sectors, including banking, allied health, government and software. Her background has enabled her to develop strong core competencies in governance, risk management and organisational change which she has demonstrated during her career. With 25 years of real world experience Sue’s career has included executive roles such as government CIO, and National Government Industry Manager for Microsoft, the world’s largest software company. These roles have provided her with the opportunity to develop an extensive network at senior levels of government and industry. As a Government CIO, Sue has developed and implemented strategies and solutions to support 11 client groups including the Premier and the Ministerial Group. She has successfully negotiated multi-million dollar outsourcing contracts resulting in significant savings to ongoing operational costs. As an Industry Manager, Sue has designed and implemented new business models that have impacted on the bottom line of a major software organisation. She has also provided guidance and leadership to a number of technology companies to develop successful new market strategies for growth and significant gains in market share. Sue’s strong communication and negotiation skills have enabled her to manage multi-disciplinary and virtual teams in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region. She has been successful at bridging the gap between business and technology and has a proven ability to distil complex technical issues to basic principles. Having established and chaired cross government committees and with more than 10 years experience in briefing and presenting to executives and boards, Sue has a solid understanding of governance principles and their application in a range of different industries. Sue has solid credentials in conceptualisation, and with a extensive knowledge and expertise in change management, resource management and corporate governance provides her with the skills to provide strategic leadership to your board.
